To know the specifics of the iOS Developer profession, we recommend that you read the Mobile Developer profession sheet.
The iOS Developer is in charge of programming applications for iPhone and iPad under the iOS operating system. In order to develop an iOS application, you must use the Mac OS X operating system. Apple has created a Kit around its operating system for the iOS Developer: Xcode for the code editor, Interface Builder for the creation of 'interface and Objective-C for the language. This kit is available for free on Apple and offers all the tools you need to build an app that works on iOS. In addition, the Apple Developer Connection site is a documentary support (video, example) which constitutes a help for any iOS Developer.
The SDK (Software Development Kit) offers a simulator, but it is limited on certain features (3D not accessible and the accelerometer is not possible). Therefore, the iOS Application Developer must have an iPhone to ensure that there are no bugs in his application.
The iOS Developer is content to test the parameters, functions and edit a line of code on a single device: the iPhone, which saves significant time. Usually the iPhone Mobile Developer has a background in web development (PHP, C #). Conversely, the Android Developer must test his application on multiple devices (different screen sizes) to correct the bugs. It must therefore be adapted to each type of device and to the quality of the image (a lot of programming time).
There is also an alternative to skip the Apple platform if the developer has a good grasp of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. He can embark on the development of an iPhone application without going through the Objective-C language. He can create his application on the platform of his choice then he converts it with a free framework like PhoneGap.
