The Product Owner is in charge of carrying out projects (or developing features) with the Agile method. He acts as a bridge between clients and internal teams (development, marketing, design, etc.).
The person will coordinate the teams to carry out a project or a feature. He must therefore have diverse and varied skills. It is essential that he has a solid foundation in tech, with an excellent business vision. However, the profiles of the product owners vary according to the specific needs of the company. Indeed, if a technical background is almost essential for this type of position, they will generally have a specialty (design, marketing, tech etc.).

Mainly from an engineering school or a business school, P.Os are familiar with agile methods and are the guarantors (along with scrum masters) of their correct application. Note that there are alternative training courses to business and engineering schools, such as Le Wagon which offers a 4-month training course and delivers a Product Owner certification.
The Product Owner can logically continue his career as Head of Product or CPO (Chief Product Officer). Thanks to his versatility combining technical background and business vision, it is not uncommon to find former Product Owners, start-up co-founders.
