The Motion Designer is a digital artist. Their canvas is the computer screen, and you'll see their work on everything from portable electronics to smartphones, television, movies and the web. The Motion Designer creates motion graphics used in multimedia campaigns for large corporations, e-learning platforms, promotional products, infographics and technical illustrations - to name a few of their deliverables.

When you consider the importance of an image or artwork to any creative campaign and then multiply it by the power of video animation, you will realize the overall value of this role to any business or organization. . Creating a conceptual design, developing storyboards, collaborating with a team, editing and then implementing a graphic are all in a day's work for these creatives.

 

REQUIRED QUALITIES

- TECHNIQUES -

The Motion Designer uses visual design or video to communicate and imagine a concept or story. They are creative, but must be collaborative in their approach as they often work with sales teams and marketing departments come up with a workable design.

They have high-end digital skills and are experts in interactive media software, which can include graphic design and video editing to three-dimensional animation. While Motion Design often require a degree, a portfolio of work can often show the range of skills needed to be successful in the job.

 

Perhaps the most important software for this role is understanding the Adobe suite of products.

Some of the most commonly used software programs by Video Artist and Motion Graphics are: Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop.

They are also often very experienced with: 4D Cinema, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Animate (formerly Flash).

TRAINING

In general, current Motion Designers graduate from specialized schools such as Supinfocom, the National School of Light, Emile Cohl, the Gobelins, the School of Artistic Trades or even the ENSAD (National School of Decorative Arts). There are also good autodidacts in this profession, passionate people who have invested a lot of time to learn everything on their own. We rely above all on the creations that they are able to show.

 

OPPORTUNITIES

With experience, the motion designer widens his spectrum of skills to occupy the functions of Project Manager then Artistic Director (DA).
