Indeed, if a technical background is almost essential for this type of position, they will generally have a specialty (design, marketing, tech etc.).

Mainly from an engineering school or a business school, P.Os (Product Owners) are familiar with agile methods and are the guarantors (along with scrum masters) of their correct application. Note that there are alternative training courses to business and engineering schools, such as Le Wagon which offers a 4-month training course and delivers a Product Owner certification.
The Product Owner can logically continue his career as Head of Product or CPO (Chief Product Officer). Thanks to his versatility combining technical background and business vision, it is not uncommon to find former Product Owners, start-up co-founders.
