The job of Product / Brand Designer consists in designing products according to specifications. Most often, the constraints are intrinsically linked to the products manufactured. Sometimes they have to be durable, other times ecological or even easy to learn, or technically complete. This profession evolves a lot depending on the environment in which it is practiced. Indeed, the Product / Brand Designer specializes according to his working environment.

So, some will be responsible for UX or User Experience, others for UI or User Interface, some will design Information Architecture (IA) and others Interaction Design. The specialization of the Product / Brand Designer is obviously determined by the product to which he turns. Medical equipment, electronics? Or a virtual, connected object? Daily physical object…? All the doors are open to the Product Designer, it is up to him to make the choice most consistent with his sensitivity.

 

REQUIRED QUALITIES

- TECHNIQUES -

The Product / Brand Designer has a versatile profile, which allows him to be a specialist in several disciplines:

  • UX design: User experience determines a large part of their design work. He strives to present an ergonomic product that meets the expectations of consumers. Its goal is to make them loyal customers of the company;
  • Interaction design: it anticipates how the product will be understood on a daily basis by the user;
  • User interface (UI) design: it ensures that the aesthetic dimension of the product is engaging for the user;
  • Information Architecture (IA): the Product Designer ensures that the organization of the product is optimal both in terms of structure and content;

The Product / Brand Designer also seeks his knowledge of eXperience Design (XD), Interaction design (IX), Experience Architect (XA) to optimize the user experience of a product. As part of an Agile project, he works in close collaboration with the Product Owner on the product features to be highlighted.

TRAINING

There is no short training course to become a Product / Brand Designer because the design of a product requires bringing together a set of knowledge that complements each other: graphics, digital art, IT and multimedia.

For a long course, it is possible to go to schools: ENSCI, Nantes-Atlantique School of Design, Strate School of Design, ENSAAMA, ISD Rubika, ENSAD, Boulle School, ESADSE, Camondo School, LISAA

 

OPPORTUNITIES

The Product / Brand Designer may have to create his own studio specializing in industrial aesthetics and offer his services to companies that do not have in-house specialists.
